10 Impossibly Cool Bars in Shinjuku, Tokyo


Shinjuku is the district in central Tokyo that does not sleep. There are countless bars or drinking spots opened until midnight and beyond. If you have no idea where you should go to drink, here are some tips to make your night journey in Tokyo exciting!

1. Roof Top Bar & Terrace G

To start off the list of cool bars in Shinjuku is Rooftop Bar & Terrace G. It has a breathtaking view of the city and is perfect for drinking outside in the summer. It's always pretty lively and is a great place to meet new people.

2. Bar Benfiddich

Bar Benfiddich is a very cool and rustique looking bar in Shinjuku. The decoration makes you travelled in time to an old bar in Europe.
The cocktails here are the reason to visit! They use herb liquors made from organic herbs from their garden. It is what Japanese cocktails are all about!

3. BAR CANDY Shinjuku

This is a hidden bar around the corner from Shinjuku station. The owner makes amazing drinks and has 35 years of experience. You can also enjoy good wine and good music.

4. Shinjuku Craft Beer Tap Shinjuku San-chome

At Shinjuku Craft Beer Tap you can enjoy beers from all over the world. There are more than 15 drafts and 30 different types of bottled beers available. There are also delicious dishes and side-dishes that are served at a reasonable price.

5. Albatross Omoide-yokocho

Albatros has become one of the hippest drinking holes in Tokyo. And understandably so. The famous bar established in 1997 is super quaint and doubles as an art gallery.

It has three locations in Tokyo, and two in Shinjuku alone: in Omoide Yokocho, and in the Golden Gai district.
There is a wide variety of alcohols to have, from Japanese sake to shochu, wines, and cocktails. If you are hesitant, just try to explain what your tastes are to the bartender and he'll make a cocktail based on your preferences.

6. Rit Bar

rit bar is a small and intimate bar in Shinjuku where you can enjoy live jazz music while sipping on delicious cocktails. The interior of the bar is really elegant and is a great place to bring a date.

There are hundreds of alcohols to choose from and you can ask the bartender to make you something to your liking if you don't know what to get.

7. BAR & DINING JAYCO Shinjuku

Fresh vegetables and fruits are used in the cocktails and food. It is a small bar where you can also order elegant and sophisticated small dishes.
This is another place to get beautiful and delicately prepared cocktails. You can get fresh fruit and even fresh vegetable cocktails. You definitely can't go wrong with the cucumber gin & tonic, for something sweet, you should try the watermelon salty dog!

8. 8Bit Cafe

This place is great for family and friend gatherings! There are also a lot of non-alcoholic drinks.
At this bar, you can play lots of nostalgic video games and also read Japanese cartoons freely.

9. Suntory Lounge Eagle

Eagle is a classic dining bar hidden behind the Shinjuku Studio Alta. The fruit cocktails are popular among female customers. There are also tons of side dishes which are perfect for pairing with wine.

The best part is enjoying watching the bartenders make the cocktails right before your eyes!

10. Hub Shinjuku Kabuki-cho

Hub is a generic English pub in Shinjuku, but there are a lot of rather cheap cocktails and it's always jam-packed so it's easy to meet people.
The two-hour drinking course is highly recommended. Here, you can enjoy over 100 kinds of wines and alcohols.
