Feel free to follow favy!

Sankaku Chitai In Sangenjaya

Sangenjaya is a neighborhood conveniently located just to the west of Shibuya (about 3.5 km and two stations away on the Tokyu Den-entoshi Line). Because of it's central location and a vibrant mix of local shops, restaurants, cafes and bars, the area has become one of the most popular places to live in, in Tokyo.

One of the spots you should definitely explore if you go there is the Sankaku Chitai 三角地帯 area of back alleys near the Sangenjaya Station. Sankaku Chitai is what is called a yokocho in Japanese, which is a collection of narrow back alleys with a high concentration of small taverns. The most famous yokocho in Japan is Shinjuku Golden Gai, which resembles a lot Sankaku Chitai, the main difference being the size.
The shops are impossibly quaint and they serve great food too, not just drinks! You can enjoy traditional foods such as oden (a sort of one-pot dish with various ingredients that include vegetables, eggs, and fishcakes), kushikatsu (deep-fried skewers), takoyaki (octopus balls), or gyozas (Japanese adaption of Chinese dumplings).

It might get a bit rowdy late at night but Sankaku Chitai is well worth the visit!
