Hotei (布袋)

Hotei is the undeniable king of cheap Chinese food in Sapporo. For less than ¥1,000 you can get a set meal that'll satisfy your hunger for sure because the portions are very generous. The popular combo sets come with Hokkaido's zangi chicken, which is a kind of deep fried chicken that is popular similar to "karaage" in other parts of Japan. The outer part is crispy and the inside is juicy. This is served for instance with a bowl of Chinese mapo tofu and a salad, soup, rice and pickles. There are a couple of other choices for the main Chinese dish, all quite good. This is more of a fusion Japanese/Chinese restaurant to be fair, but it's so popular that we've made it our first choice, especially for a cheap meal.
Located at a 5-minute walk from the Nishi Ju-ichi Chome Station (3rd Exit).

Kashiu (香州)

This is one of the most loved spots for Chinese food in Sapporo. The interior is really warm and is a mix of Chinese and Japanese aesthetics. You can dine on tatami mats at a low Chinese-style round table.

Gyokurinshuka (玉林酒家)

This is a popular restaurant with lots of charm run by an elder woman passionate about her cuisine and super friendly. She makes one of the best mapo tofu in the Sapporo according to so many people that go there regularly. It has an addictive spiciness that isn't too strong and the portions are very generous. Except to pay around ¥1,500 here.

Bireika (美麗華)

Bireika is a chic restaurant but the prices are affordable during lunch time (around ¥1,500). The tantanmen (a kind of Chinese spicy ramen with mincemeat) is really popular. For dinner, there are various courses to choose from that range in price from ¥3,000 to ¥10,000. Everything is beautifully presented and in a category of its own for quality. This is quite arguably the best Chinese restaurant in Sapporo. You'll be impressed not only by the food but also the refined decor.
