Motsunabe is a kind of Japanese hot pot found in Fukuoka. The name "Motsunabe" is a combination of the word "motsu" which means innards in Japanese and "nabe" which is a word for hot pot dishes in Japanese.

The main ingredients of motsunabe are beef innards, cabbage, tofu, and Chinese chives. The soup is often miso or soy sauce based. After we finish eating the nabe, we add some noodles or fice into the pot to finish up the dish.

A 5-minute walk from JR Ebisu station, Hakata motsunabe Arizuki will offer you a magnificent motsunabe. There are 5 flavours of motsunabe in Arizuki: Miso, soy sauce, ponzu-vinegar, chilli, and beef broth style. The most popular flavour is the miso flavour.

Visiting Arizuki will also give you a chance to try mentaiko, or spicy cod roe, and some shochu, a distilled Japanese spirit made from rice and potatoes.

Torigoya (鳥小屋 本店)

Located at a 5-minute walk from Nakameguro station, Torigoya is a motsunabe restaurant where you can enjoy delicious motsunabe very cheap. Motsunabe is 950 yen per person and there are other cuisines you probably would also love. Torigoya is very popular so you'd better make a reservation before the visit.

Yamasho (やましょう)

2-minute walk from Ningyocho station, Yamasho is very popular among young women because of their ginger motsunabe. It's not only really delicious, but it is rich in collagen and said to be very healthy. At Ginger motsunabe, reservation is mandatory so be sure to make one.

About a 7-minute walk from Shibuya station, Jomon is a perfect place to enjoy some motsunabe after you have enjoyed visiting Shibuya. The name of the restaurant "Jomon" means high quality in Hakata dialect and they do have excellent foods!

Jomon also has motsuyaki, a skewered style of offal so you can enjoy motsunabe and motsuyaki at the same time.
